joelarant.com is now powered by Drupal! Maybe I'll tune a guitar tonight.
New song (finally)
To attempt to compensate for a diminished attention span I tried yet another way of doing this, recorded the main rhythm guitar and vocals to a kick track and added everything else later. Therefore this may not be as polished as the tracks from TWIMB but there is still a more than just a hint of megalomaniacal pomposity.
Special thanks to Abdul benCamel and Cuddy for loaning me their ears (again) which are much better than mine.
At some point I will put the video I recorded while doing the original tracks, you're warned!
TWIMB on CD Baby's featured playlist "Love Stinks" this week, "for those of us that love to hate Valentine's Day".
And because I don't have anything else to do, new song coming soon!
Where did I put 2008? Gotta be around here somewhere...
In honor of Bruce Springsteen's birthday I finally broke wind, um - I'm sure I meant to say ground on a new project tentatively titled:
You're not getting any younger, it's time to sing along with Joel!
I say "project" because who knows if there will be such a thing as a CD by the time I'm done. Have eight or nine new originals and too much stuff to do, including, apparently, being a cry-baby.
I kept having this dream about green beer....
Actually felt like playing out would be fun yesterday, must be the long guitar-playing-inducing evenings. If I do play out this summer it won't be much because I need to keep writing so I have something to record and need to record so there might be some more news someday.
In the meantime, go to MySpace to see me backing up my significant other on guitar and harmonica.
HIBER-NATION. Somebody please wake me up in the spring!
Just a reminder that

at Uncommon Ground October 8th. I'm playing at 7 followed by Paul Matthew Lauck at 8 and perhaps TBA at 9.
And just for fun a link to an mp3 of a demo I recorded August 6th. Just me, guitar and harmonica all recorded in one take - I had other stuff to do too!
Oh yeah, can't get it out of my head alert.
Head on over to My Space to listen to some of Jeff Mitchell's stuff, especially "House On Fire".
Some links to some of the great acts I saw or met or wish I'd seen at the MMS, mostly in the order I caught them.
Katherine Schell
Megan Laurie (with Kristi Thetford)
Tim Jones & David Moore
That ought to keep you busy!
It's been a great summer and it keeps getting better. As well as playing at the Midwest Music Summit in Indianapolis next week (Monon Coffee 8pm on Friday August 11th) I'm looking forward to going back to Mother Fool's in Madison the weekend after that, Crescent Moon Coffee in Lincoln in September and Uncommon Ground in Chicago in October.
Thanks to everyone that supports live music!
